Welcome to the Art Classes Page.
I am based in Durban North .The new 72 square meter ,first floor studio is now complete. Classes will be starting once again from 1 August 2009. If you are intrested then please send your enquiries to imveloworks@telkomsa.net. Here are some details you want to know before contacting me.
Classes
I teach predominantly in watercolour, natural history subjects namely botanical art and illustration, birds , bugs ,animals , etc.
Who should attend ? - Total Beginners and Intermediates Students may want to rent this space for a nominal fee when you want to chill for a few hours. Book well in advance please. - I do prefer to teach adults over the age of 18 years
Who should NOT attend ? People who don't like dogs.When I visit you I do not ask you to lock up your kids.I do not lock up my dogs. I love kids -they should be free just like my dogs. My dogs are well behaved and are an integral part of everything here.
Whose the art teacher ? James Short Character Description Not short , Big in character and stature,passionate ,driven,enthusiastic A " lets dive in and get the job done now" kind of guy. I have been trained by several local and overseas artists, attending classes overseas from time to time and exhibit as well as do commissioned works.See the front page of this web site
Who has attended these workshops/courses ?
Total beginners, people who have just wanted a firm foundation on which to start ,intermediate skilled people who simply want some kind of guidance and direction and to try something new.People who have tertiary art education but wanted to hone their skills in watercolour or another medium or technique that is taught.I must make special mention of the three stars who have gone that extra mile and where passion and drive of their for their work keeps them ever striving to greater levels of skill and expression.To them I say keep going ,you are trail blazers in what you do. They are: - Tessa Dean -Textile Designer-Kzn Wildflower portfolio. Wilna Leyden - South African Gold Medalist-Botanical Artist. Linda Hampson - South African Silver and Bronze medalist. A brilliant coloured pencil artist and teacher,based in Howick.
What Style of teaching does he use ? A structured approach,typically a three hour class on a Saturday includes, about an hour of theory . A series of demonstrations of what I expect you to follow thereafter. I am a passsionate teacher, I love teaching, I take my teaching very seriously and classes are very well prepared. I am taking you on a journey and laying a strong foundation for your future in painting.You will learn the theory,and with time , you will choose what medium you want to paint in.At the same time this is an enjoyable experience. You are paying me to learn , I guarantee you, you will not come to this class and flop around aimlessly and directionless. Your Improvement will be evaluated from time to time.You are guaranteed to get lots of home work. I teach using a variety of teaching media.I also teach a variety of techniques. The Studio Please be advised that the studio is on the first floor,you will need to climb stairs There is lots of safe , on- site parking. The garden is predominantly indigeneous and a work in progress. A sun deck in the indigeneous tree tops , for a tea break or smoke break. There are bathroom facilities and a kitchen - all within the studio space. A comfortable table, chair and a plethora of equipment like lamps , plant stands etc are available. Everything you need is there. Most times I provide the material for class.
Art Materials I have a list of art materials you need, when you need it.So don't go buy tons of stuff and break the bank. I can also supply most of the materials.Contact me for a list. At your disposal is a modest number of animal,plant,insect identification reference books and materials. Cost Contact me for a price per month for classes Other matters Renting this space This space is available to rent on a daily basis for other art teachers.Maximum 10 students or people who want to have small meetings etc.Please book well in advance.
As an individual or maybe a small group of friends, you want to paint together,then with pleasure, you may do just that.This is at a nominal fee .Please enquire.
